Thomas Kuriakose, MD

Thomas Kuriakose, MD, is a physician based in New York, NY, specializing in pediatric critical care. He is completing a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. In 2022, he finished his pediatric residency at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center through the Boston Combined Residency Program. His career has been guided by a strong commitment to advancing care for underserved populations and improving health outcomes for children in critical settings.

Thomas earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Economics from a college in Massachusetts. Following graduation, he joined a teaching program in Mississippi, teaching high school students Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry, Statistics, and SATP Biology for three years. His students consistently performed above average on state assessments. In addition to teaching, he was an assistant coach for the track and field and soccer teams, mentoring student-athletes who achieved state-level success. These formative experiences reinforced his interest in youth development and influenced his decision to pursue medicine.

Thomas later earned a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction before enrolling in medical school in New Jersey. During medical school, he co-founded a mentorship program for adolescents with HIV and held leadership positions at a student-run free clinic, eventually becoming its director. He also contributed to designing and implementing a team-based training initiative to improve communication and safety in clinical environments. His dedication to service was recognized with a distinction in community engagement.

As a resident, he participated in curriculum development and equity-centered educational programs. In fellowship, his research focuses on enhancing communication between providers and families in the pediatric ICU, particularly in acute respiratory failure. He also led the implementation of Health Equity Rounds to encourage open discussion around disparities in care.

Thomas Kuriakose, MD, continues to combine clinical training, research, and advocacy to support critically ill children and promote equitable, compassionate care for families.
